Research Trust

The research trust is a sub-committee elected by the management executive of the Flour Millers Association. This committee has been delegated the task of administering the funds generated from levies on all flour sales in New Zealand. These levies are collected in line with the requirements of the 'Wheat Industry Research Levies Act 1989'.

The purpose of the act is to 'provide money for research into the growing of wheat, and the manufacture of wheat into flour, bread and other products by imposing levies on persons and organisations engaged in wheat growing, flour milling, baking and other related industries.'

The function of the research committee is to initiate research or evaluate requests for funding made by various individuals and research institutions for work related to, or deemed beneficial for, the Flour milling industry in New Zealand.

Having evaluated such requests, the research committee will recommend to the Management Committee that funding be approved or declined.

Successful applications are monitored and progress reported back to the Management Committee during the life of the project.

Information gained, or royalties achieved as a result of such projects is retained and distributed back to the industry.
